{"id":2490,"date":"2017-03-01T16:17:45","date_gmt":"2017-03-01T16:17:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/onlyinely.co.uk\/?p=2490"},"modified":"2017-03-09T16:20:36","modified_gmt":"2017-03-09T16:20:36","slug":"ely-southern-bypass-to-open-in-spring-2018","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/onlyinely.co.uk\/ely-southern-bypass-to-open-in-spring-2018\/","title":{"rendered":"Ely Southern Bypass To Open In Spring 2018"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ely Southern Bypass Set To Open\u00a0This time Next Year<\/p>\n<p>Work has begun on the long awaited Ely Southern Bypass between Suntney Causeway and Angel Drove to the south of Ely.<\/p>\n<p>Councillor Mike Rouse said: \u201cThey\u2019ve been talking about this for years and years.<\/p>\n<p>Local people have been asking for this to happen for a long, long time &#8211; 20 years.<\/p>\n<p>Nathan Thrower, project manager at Cambridgeshire County Council, said: \u201cThe existing A142 has a low bridge, so HGVs are not able to go underneath the bridge and have to use the level crossing. When HGVs queue to use the level crossing, the queues go back onto the A142 which blocks the road completely and causes significant congestion.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe purpose of Ely Southern Bypass is to improve the transport in the area: the new route will provide a new link between Suntney Causeway and Angel Drove to the south of Ely.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Matt Klinefelter, structure site agent at Volker Fitzpatrick, said: \u201cThe bypass is important for transport links, and I think it will give a bit of a boost to the area as well.
