Ely’s popular Eel Festival is returning for its 10th year! This year there will be a whole weekend of celebrations, including the first Ely Food & Drink Festival with a huge array of Eel inspired food and drinks!
Saturday 3rd May for Ely’s Annual Eel Day
Starting at 10.30 am from Cross Green (adjacent to the Cathedral) Ely’s ‘Neil the Eel’ will be heading the carnival like procession along part of the City’s Eel Trail Heritage Walk. Everybody is welcome to join in. Eel Throwing? Children and adults alike can battle it out to see who can throw the handmade eels the furthest. Ely Street Musicians Muster and Market Street Food Fayre.
Ely Food & Drink Festival
Ely Food and Drink Festival will be located on Palace Green. Ely?s historic eel connections have inspired this food festival. Come and join cookery experts and local producers in our food marquee. Our artisan, specialist food and drink traders will be housed in our large Food Marquee providing lots of expert advice, information and tantalising tasters. There will be: Michelin Chefs, hands-on cookery demonstrations and expert talks, Local food sellers, Demonstrations, TV chefs, Tastings, Eel inspired food. Join us in Ely for some GREAT food!
Eel Festival Food Safari
Take a foody trail aroud the city stopping off to sample some eel inspired dishes at various venues. Fancy trying a slippery eel cocktail, an iced eel biscuit or a roasted eel dish? Running all weekend, look out for the Eel Festival Food Safari logo.
World Eel Throwing Competition
Take part and test your skills and strength. (No eels will be harmed ? only socks!)
Fun for Kids
Entertainment, music and crafts for a child friendly, fun filled weekend – a GREAT family day out!
Throughout the city there will be an array of entertainment, providing something for all tastes! Try out the Fun Fair on the Market Place or take a leisurely stroll on one of the historical walks from Ely Tourist Information Centre. Supported by The Ely Gin Company, your walk ends with an opportunity to sample the wonderful flavours of Ely Gin and Taste the Spirit of the Fens!
